A Young Man's Fancy
By John M. Floyd

Tom took his girlfriend to the game to have fun—
They had some bad fortune instead:
The first batter, while Tom was fixing his bun,
Bounced a foul ball off Jennifer's head.
When Tom saw what had happened (imagine his shock)
He did what a boyfriend should do:
He rushed the unconscious young lass to the doc—
Just as soon as the inning was through.

Mississippi writer JOHN M.
