Baseball Poetry

Ode to Dan Quisenberry
By Larry Fangman

  the news
  of your death
  hit me
  like a fastball
  in the ribs.
  A sportswriter
  in the paper
  praised you
  as a pitcher
  and a poet, so I
  special ordered
  your collection.
  Six weeks later,
I paid $12.95
  and held
  the pages of your life
  in my hands.
  On the way home,
  in rush hour traffic,
  I opened your book
  at the red lights
  and read
  until the horns
  behind me.

LARRY FANGMAN has published poems in Fine Lines and will have a poem in an upcoming issue of Aethlon. His favorite Dan Quisenberry poem is "Ode to Ben Oglivie."
